By using slide rocket, I got the chance to tweak my presentation of my analysis of a metal rock magazine which was Terrorizer. I decided to analyse a metal rock magazine to help me build my research on different conventions of magazines.
From this analysis, I have learnt:
- My magazine should have a certain colour of theme which is consistent and must relate to the sub-genre I have chosen.
- In the contents page, I should always have page number references that links with the double page spread.
- Consider using pull quotes on the front page and even on the double page spread.
- Use different size fonts to highlight the importance of a specific topic.
- Also include a variety of different but related pictures in the contents page.
- Try relate the use of colour, symbols and font with the sub-genre of the magazine itself.
This is a mood board that I decided to create which focuses on different genres of music which mainly include rock, pop and r&b/hip hop.
I have found out that R&B/hip hop magazines are very popular as there is plenty of magazines that are based on the genre itself for example the magazine Vibe. By creating this mood board, it helps me develop my research for my chosen genre by closely looking at different aspects of each magazine. My next post will be on analysing different types of magazines including the front cover, content page and the double page spread which then eventually will lead me to choose a specific genre to focus my magazine on.
By analysing a classic rock magazine I have learnt that in every magazine theme colours are vital as they have to be continuous and also bright to attract readers. I have also learnt that the main colour that is usually common in a classic rock magazine is black and white and also dull colours that represent the genre itself. Additionally by analysing the magazine, it has taught me that the pictures in the magazine have to be linked throughout the front cover, contents page and the double page spread. My next post will be analyses on variety of different genres of music and eventually picking the genre that interests me to do my magazine on.
